Education Committee

The Knox County SWCD Education Committee was formed to raise awareness and promote natural resources conservation education to children, youth, and adults in Knox County. Its members/partners include Vincennes University, Purdue Extension, South Knox School Corp., Vincennes Community School Corp., Knox County Public Library, natural gardener’s club, master naturalist, and community members.

One of the major projects of the committee has been the Grow City Teaching Garden, located behind the McGrady-Brockman building in Vincennes. The purpose of the teaching garden is to improve the health of our soil & community, one small garden at a time.

Some of the 2019 events that occurred at the garden include:

  • April 30th workshop – Preparing the Garden
  • May 22nd workshop – Planting the Garden
  • June 1st Secret Seed Project at Knox County Public Library Summer Reading Program
  • June 25th workshop – Garden Care and Maintenance
  • July 31st workshop – “Soil – It’s not just dirt!!”
  • August 27th workshop – Composting Made Easy
  • September 24th workshop – Lasagna Layers & Seed Saving
  • October 22nd workshop – Cover Crops

There is an upcoming Grow City workshop on March 22, 2022. See the flyer here.
