Earlier this month I gave an update about the Snapp/Kelso & Smalls Creek Watershed Project at the SWCD annual meeting. A few of the concerns that were touched on was the high levels of total suspended solids (TSS) and E. coli that have been found during stormflow events. Along with high levels of nitrate and orthophosphate during baseflow and stormflow. At our next meeting we will look at stakeholder concerns and decide what we want to focus on. Our next steering committee meeting will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2023.
Water quality monitoring within the watershed continues monthly.

There is also another project that will be getting started soon that includes a portion of Knox County. The Greene County Soil & Water Conservation District recently acquired a 319 grant for a 4-year Planning & Implementation project in the Black Creek Watershed. This exciting new initiative will focus on assessing and improving water quality in the Black Creek watershed, which drains 132 square miles (106,857 total acres) of western Greene County, as well as portions of Sullivan and Knox counties. There will be a Public Kick-Off Meeting to give an overview of the project, answer questions, solicit Advisory Committee interest, and collect stakeholder input regarding local water quality and resource concerns. This meeting will be on Thursday, March 23rd at the Linton Public Library (95 1st St. SE Linton, IN 47441) at 6:00 pm ET.
