The Knox County Soil & Water Conservation District is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for its new Invasive Plant Species Management Cost Share Program on private lands. We are targeting landowners with natural areas (e.g. woods, wetlands, glades, prairies) of 1 to 10 acres (if more than 10, we recommend applying for the NRCS’ EQIP program; our office can help you with this process as well).
The Knox County SWCD plans to award $3,000 in cost share this year. Applications will be ranked by: quality of the area, quality of the nearby area, size of area, and specific invasive species found. High scores for quality of the area, quality of the nearby area, and threat of the invasive species found at the site will be reflected in a higher ranking of the cost share application. A larger treatment area (up to ~10 ac.) will also improve an applicant’s ranking. Applications will be discussed first at the Knox County Cooperative Weed Management Area meetings, and recommendations made at these meetings will go to the SWCD board for final approval.
